About Us
Dexter Lyons and Mark Thomas teamed up in 1989 in Lafayette, LA to combine their investment experience, talents and philosophy of money management. For over ten years, they provided professional money management in separately managed accounts through their firm, Horizon Capital Management. In 2004, Dexter and Mark decided that they could more effectively manage client assets in a pooled vehicle – a mutual fund. In December 2004, HCM launched the HCM Freedom Fund.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
HCM employs a dynamic asset allocation strategy and has great flexibility in deciding in what to invest and when to invest. HCM believes that limiting losses is as important to building capital as maximizing gains and manages risk by exiting positions when HCM believes that potential portfolio gains are not sufficient to justify the potential risk of loss.
HCM attempts to identify and profit from market trends, making long investments in areas of the market that have risen somewhat and appear to offer additional upside and short investments in areas of the market which have begun to decline and appear likely to decline further. HCM attempts to identify changing market conditions based on proprietary technical analysis of trends, relative strength of various sectors of the markets as well as seasonal considerations.
When HCM has not identified to its satisfaction areas of the market in which it feels comfortable investing, whether long or short, HCM may invest portions or all assets in cash or cash equivalents for capital preservation. During periods of uncertainty, HCM may also create hedged positions using combinations of long and short positions in an attempt to gain some upside exposure while limiting downside.
An investor should consider the investment
